Breaking News
And in BREAKING news, this headline is a mere 35 minutes old as I start this post:
Another bipartisan bill, the "AI Kill Switch Act," would require AI developers to create the technical ability to shut down or throttle rogue systems. Reps. Ted Lieu, D-California, and Nathaniel Moran, R-Texas, unveiled the legislation in July, not long after OpenAI's models escaped "sandboxed" environments and hacked a major database by themselves.
I guess Congress is so incredibly devoted to inventing stupid, pointless laws that they watch fewer movies than I do and not a SINGLE congressperson has EVER heard of the 1983 movie WarGames or the Terminator franchise that started in 1984 and has six films, a TV show and an animated series to its name.
No, they are so very serious about justifying their mostly pointless, time wasting jobs creating bureaucratic paperwork to aggravate the American people that they need a for realzy realz AI researcher to warn them about the dangers of AI.
Movies are for glorifying the role of creeps like Sam Altman and Elon Musk in our toxic technology environment, not for POLITELY warning anyone doing real work that this could potentially go sideways.
Next up: Data centers designed to enrich billionaires continue destroying the environment while accomplishing....I have absolutely no fucking clue. With all the headlines and articles and videos out there about the destructive hot new trend of data centers, not a single one has ever commented on WHAT does a fucking DATA CENTER actually DO.
Footnote
AND a little research suggests that the data centers eating the US are for training AI. So we could kill two birds with one stone here by saying NO to their destructive development.
We WON'T, of course. Because it would require Congress to come up with TWO FUNCTIONING brain cells between the lot of them and we can't do that, no.
