Don't Go Chasing Waterfalls

My understanding is that some chieftain dreamt that the Native Americans would have won against the invading Europeans if they had stuck to using their own weapons, especially the bow and arrow. One of the reasons they lost is because they were enamored of the things the Europeans brought with them and sought to acquire those things and had no means to properly maintain them.

They acquired guns and then could not produce nor afford to purchase the oils necessary to make them work properly. Instead, they used tallow which hardens in the cold, so Natives routinely slept with their guns to keep them warm enough from body heat to not seize up and fail to fire.

They also couldn't make their own bullets, which is obviously a big problem. They not only could make their own arrows, arrows can sometimes be pulled out of someone on the field of battle and used again, something that you don't see with bullets.

There is a long history in the US of well-meaning people wanting to give Black Americans the things Whites have as if that will remedy a long history of inequality of outcomes rooted in unequal treatment.

1. Someone died and left their money to charity to pay for medical care for Black Americans. Few Blacks heard of it or benefited from it. 

2. Some plantation owner who owned an entire island off the coast of Georgia decided to leave the island to the Black residents. Everyone on the island shared and shared alike until it became valuable real estate and White people began developing it as vacation resorts, crowding out the Blacks who often sold their share of the land, blew the money on a nice car and clothes and had nothing to really show for it all.

3. Black Wall Street -- aka The Greenwood District of Tulsa, OK -- was a wealthy Black neighborhood that got burned to the ground by angry Whites in 1921 on some excuse or other. In the aftermath, the Whites proceeded to "update" fire safety codes, making it difficult for Black residents to rebuild, as if the fire was due to poor architecture and not started on purpose by hateful racist White people.

If you want to be free and empowered, you need your own culture and your own cultural artifacts -- AKA THINGS -- and you need to understand them and have the capacity to produce them, use them and maintain them properly.

They need to make practical sense for the education level of your people and the skill sets they natively have. 

Lusting after the things of your conquerors or owners and not after the knowledge and skills that produce them has a long, long track record of destroying the people who chase such.
