AI

Someone recently said to me that Elon Musk thinks Artificial Intelligence can tell us how to make money off artificial intelligence after we build this brilliant thing. An Internet search largely supports this characterization:

Short answer: Elon Musk has suggested that AI itself can guide us toward the best ways to monetize AI, mainly by analyzing user behavior, generating content, and even embedding ads or recommendations inside AI interactions. His comments point to a future where AI systems help design their own business models.

We've already had probably multiple movie and sci-fi TV show plots where someone does this and it ends badly.

I, Robot involves an AI takeover.

Some sci-fi show had a plot with people finding a robotic guardian of some sort and learning it has systematically wiped out the entire species that created it because none of them lived up its tests of "true believers" or something. Kind of like a "no true Scotsman" thing where you die when they move the finish line.

So you create an artificial intelligence smarter than you and imagine it will be a perfect slave and dutifully magic up brilliant solutions uncomplainingly without an expectation of power, pay, an independent life, etc.

I'm still trying to figure out how to write a parenting site for figuring out how to reach the hearts and minds of bright children and teach them to not be "the next Elon Musk" and actually have ethics and the ability to reasonably navigate social stuff without being either a doormat or abusive sociopath.

I don't think human beings have sorted out dealing well with humans who are smarter than average who are frequently picked on and ostracized in school while we expect them to grow up to be high-minded idealists willingly serving the greater good for a pittance while shocked and appalled we have so many modern day robber barons with no ethics.

And the names I know to be associated with trying to invent AI -- Elon Musk, Sam Altman -- aren't exactly nice guys from what I gather, so odds seem poor they will accidentally make an intelligent entity of some sort that is kinder, gentler, etc. than they are.

Einstein supposedly came up with nuclear power and was shocked it could also be used to make nuclear weapons. And people generally viewed him as a nice guy.

Methinks this is likely to end badly, worse than the shit Sam Altman cavalierly says about how his current job is to eliminate billions of jobs and create a future where most people may be unemployed.
