The Best of the Web

Someone once said on Hacker News that they watched how people treated me who claimed to be good people or whatever. 

I was homeless and participated on an overwhelmingly male forum as openly female and everyone pretty much universally wants to wear their virtue on their sleeve, but I mostly got openly pissed all over and I've stopped participating because of it. And some people paid attention to how individuals interacted with me as a litmus test for checking their claims about being pro women's rights or whatever. 

I recently posted something on Hacker News for stupid reasons. I wanted to be abletofind it again.

It didn't any traction. I didn't expect it to get traction. 

It's dated 4 days ago and I have an email dated 5 days ago saying it's going in the second chance pool. There aren't two copies of it, so they've probably updated how they handle the second chance pool to make it less apparent that the moderation staff re-upped it.

I once saw someone BRAG in a stupidly assholish fashion that they were asked to resubmit the piece. So they probably changed how it gets handled because people know there's a second chance pool and this sometimes goes weird places and they are trying to improve how it works. 

I was once told that a lot of my submissions went in the second chance pool. So staff wants me to succeed and I'm a "DEI hire." And no matter how much staff wants me to succeed, they can't singlehandedly change the fact that planet earth is a misogynistic, classist cesspit and no girls allowed in the old boys club.

Odds are good some people from Hacker News still read my blog posts, know I've trash talked them and rather than make amends to me in some fashion, the response is "Bitch is welcome to stay away. We don't want her here anyway."

Hacker News was a better experience for me than Metafilter was. Hacker News doesn't position itself as some enclave of high minded holier than thou wonderful people making the world a better place. 

Metafilter does position itself as a bastion of morally superior people making the world a better place and shafted me and, no, none of my posts about classism on Metafilter or whatever has ever been posted to MeTa to discuss how they can improve the culture there, much less how they can make amends to someone whose crime is apparently poverty and whose punishment is "We shall never allow you to escape it."

If you have ANY sense whatsoever, this should tell you who they really are and what lying hypocrites they are who aren't actually virtuous people. 

They just like virtue signaling because it helps pay the bills.
