Wake Up and Smell the Coffee
We bitch when white men write only about white male culture as that is exclusionary. We also bitch about cultural appropriation if they write about anything else. We also also bitch about how evil and terrible it is if other cultures feel forced to put their culture on display to try to make money.Apparently, nothing makes us happy.
There were like 500 tribes in the lands that became the United States of America. So everything "Native" is aimed at a smaller market than anything mainstream American.
Because Ojibwa and Cherokee are simply not the same nation the way New York and Los Angeles are. There isn't actually culturally or politically any cohesive umbrella group of "Natives," no.
And Natives actively piss all over me and people like me for being interested in our HERITAGE. Overly White descendants are not welcome to be interested in "your" various cultures for any reason because it must be cultural appropriation or something.
FYI: I don't REALLY give a flying fuck about "your" culture. I'm interested in understanding MY cultural heritage as handed down to me via my biological FATHER who said he was part Cherokee.
But WE are SUPPOSEDLY excluding YOU and committing some offense with only having "token" Redskins not really central to or strongly relevant to the plot in TV shows and movies.
That's a little like saying "Why aren't there more movies and TV shows doing a deep dive on the culture and history of Coffee County, Georgia???? Those exclusionary rat bastards never talk about anything but New York and Los Angeles and if they mention Georgia at all, it's always Atlanta!!! Fucking racists excluding rednecks and rural culture!!!"
I've heard of Coffee County because I have coattail relations there, not because I was born and raised in the state of Georgia. If the rest of the world doesn't know fuck all about it and isn't writing major screen productions about it, I'm pretty fucking confident it's got nothing to do with hating on Coffee-ites and TRYING to exclude them.
