Business

I've written elsewhere about How do you modernize when the tribe owns the land? The crux of the issue is you can't get a mortgage if the tribe owns the land and this is a significant barrier to development.

Historically, tribes tended to be mobile, to live off the land via hunting and gathering and they had "simple" lives where they didn't accumulate much.

I mean that in the sense of the modern term simple living or minimalism. Some people drowning in North American Affluenza actively seek to escape that trend of modern life though historically most people had relatively few possessions.

The piece I wrote, above, addresses residential development and suggests some solutions. Housing is something I've studied.

Business is more complicated and there's more to it than owning real property and improving it. Franchises are a thing because a business is sort of like a living organism and merely having real estate doesn't give you a business.

I don't have solutions or suggestions but I've recently had the thought that lack of mortgages are all also a barrier to commercial and industrial development.

Tribes can't compete on an even footing with other peoples because their form of organization impedes developing large corporations or similar.

Someone once said to me something like settled peoples always outcompete mobile tribal peoples because agriculture supports more people than hunting and gathering. I have heard that historically you needed twenty farmers to support one person in another occupation and these days a single farmer supports like two hundred people.

However, I believe that we are strip mining our soils of essential nutrients and this is fostering chronic health issues and obesity

I have no idea how tribal peoples can modernize in terms of business development -- commercial and industrial development -- but I also don't necessarily think that trying to brute force a means to do it our way is necessarily a good thing. Americans today are mostly not in good health.

Anyway, it's here on this blog as an observation of a social phenomenon that's destructive: the Native policies amount to cutting their own throats and then to some degree blaming colonizers for out competing them rather than wondering how they can up their game and step up to either keep up or stomp our fat out of shape ugly asses into the ground by finding a means to throw out some of our bath water while keeping the baby.

Because modern corporate farming is feeding more people but failing to keep us adequately nourished and the degree to which people complain about big business hurting people suggests there are likely similar things going on there.

Last, I will note people can live without business but business cannot live without people. Incorporating means giving the business a life of its own and sometimes that means humans end up serving the business and being owned by the business rather than the business serving them and being owned by them.

But this is not a problem I can solve. It's merely one I can say exists and maybe Natives should work on solving it instead of acting like White people are just meanie faces and that's the ENTIRE problem.

Granted, some White people should absolutely be taken out and shot. And if you did that, Natives would still mostly be poor anyway.

They should do something about that if it bothers them.

You folks may think I'm a Pretendian but I'm a former military wife, so I've absolutely lived as a modern mobile person unwanted by much of the locals around me. I think mobile people are needed and valuable and we need to do a better job of supporting such lifestyles for ordinary people who aren't members of the jet set.
